You know how debilitating and hurtful it can feel when people don’t believe you? Well people living with anxiety experience that everyday because their symptoms aren’t ‘believable’. I’m raising awareness for the often overlooked sides of anxiety by using art to connect in a different way to allow the unseen to be seen and believed!
People living with anxiety are often seen as hypocondriacs or ‘drama queens’ because people don’t understand and therefor often don’t believe their symptoms. they’re often accused of faking their symptoms by people who have a lack of knowledge around anxiety disorders.
Approximately 65% of the worlds population are visual learners.
Maybe the problem isn’t a lack of information. Maybe the problem is how the information is taught to us.
Anxiety is for the most part an invisible disorder, considering this it makes perfect sense to explain these often ‘unrealistic’ or ‘dramatic’ symtoms visually. This will make clear that it’s a normal part of anxiety and very real for the person experiencing it. Breaking the ‘faking it’ stigma!
That’s why I’m creating an art exhibition with installations, interactive displays and visual art to explain the symptoms of anxiety. The exhibition will align with Mental Health Week. Opening October 10th -16th. 3-6 pm Saturday-Sunday and 3-5 pm Monday-Friday. Located at 110 Hindley Street, Adelaide 5000. This event will be covid safe. Procedures and Strategies have been implemented and abide by the current standards in place in South Australia.
To hold the exhibition I’ll need $500
$350 for materials $150 for marketing expenses. Any money that is left over will go to funding my next project, an art club for people experiencing mental health issues.
Will you support me in making this happen by donating to fund my exhibition.
no profit will be made from this exhibition and is being run as part of a school project at Youth Inc.
All donors will be acknowledged on the opening and closing nights of the exhibition.
